An animal can be summoned by this spell using the following rules:

  • The animal must have one of the following templates:
    • Celestial Creature, Counterpoised Creature, Entropic Creature, Fiendish Creature, Foo Creature, or Resolute Creature.
  • The animal’s CR must match the following formula for each summon monster spell.
    • CR less than or equal to 2 Summon Monster 1, CR 3-4 Summon Monster 2, CR 5-6 Summon Monster 3, CR 7-8 Summon Monster 4, CR 9-10 Summon Monster 5, CR 11-12 Summon Monster 6, CR 13-14 Summon Monster 7, CR 15-16 Summon Monster 8, CR greater than or equal to 17 Summon Monster 9.
    • If the monster’s CR is greater than 18 for every point with which it is greater the creature has an LA, you must be at least CL 18 + the LA of that monster to summon that monster.
  • Animals, other than Foo Creature’s, do not have a Type, and as such do not level up with the summoner. The benefit of this, is that anyone can someone one of them without a contract, as long as they have the strength required to cast their spell.

Summon Monster I

DESCRIPTION
This spell summons an extraplanar creature (typically an outsider, elemental, or magical beast native to another plane) that you have made a pact with. It appears where you designate and acts immediately, on your turn. It attacks your opponents to the best of its ability. If you can communicate with the creature, you can direct it not to attack, to attack particular enemies, or to perform other actions. The spell conjures one of the creatures from the 1st Level list on Table: Summon Monster I. You may choose any single creature with which you have made a pact with, and you can choose a different one each time you cast the spell.

A summoned monster cannot summon or otherwise conjure another creature, nor can it use any teleportation or planar travel abilities. Creatures cannot be summoned into an environment that cannot support them. Creatures summoned using this spell cannot use spells or spell-like abilities that duplicate spells with expensive material components (such as wish).

A character that starts with this spell may choose any three creatures from the summon monster I list, to already have a pact with.

If a summoned monster is treated poorly, a deal is regarding the pact is broken, or some other issue causes the pact with the monster to immediately end, the summoned monster can no longer be summoned using this spell.

A summoned monster levels up as you do. The stronger the bond between the summoner and his monster, the stronger the monster.
